Working together towards a world without litter

Imagine a world where litter is no longer a problem, but an opportunity to collect waste in a smarter, more engaging and more conscious way. At Can Crush, we are committed to a sustainable future by making waste collection accessible, educational and attractive — for everyone, but especially for children.

From an early age, we want children to experience that waste does not belong on the street, in parks or in nature. By involving them in a playful way in collecting and sorting waste correctly, we can build a cleaner and more sustainable world together.

Can Crush is an innovative Belgian company, founded in 2025 and based in Antwerp. Our mission is to help reduce litter by making waste collection more visible, understandable and inspiring. The focus is on awareness, behavioural change and actively involving children in responsible waste behaviour.

What do we do?

Can Crush is currently developing the Playbin: an educational waste station for public spaces.

The Playbin is not an ordinary waste bin. The concept is designed to involve children in collecting waste correctly in a playful and visible way. Different waste streams can be collected separately in the Playbin, such as empty cans, empty PET bottles, other recyclable packaging, such as plastic packaging, metal packaging and drink cartons, paper and residual waste.

An important part of the Playbin is the manual Can Crush mechanism. This allows empty cans and PET bottles to be visibly reduced in size without electricity. It is precisely this visible action that makes waste collection more concrete, active and attractive.

Why are we building this machine?

Litter is not only caused by a lack of waste bins. It is also caused by the fact that throwing waste away is often invisible, passive and not very engaging. You throw something away and walk on. For children, that is usually not an experience they learn from or that truly connects them to the problem.

Can Crush wants to do this differently.

With the Playbin, waste collection becomes a visible and active action. Children see what happens to a can or bottle and are encouraged in a positive way to place waste in the correct waste stream. The playful element is not an extra feature, but the core of the concept.

In this way, Can Crush wants to contribute to a generation that better understands that waste does not belong on the street or in nature, but must be collected, sorted and processed correctly.

Why litter requires more than just cleaning up

Litter is more than an untidy street scene. Waste that is left behind on streets, in parks or in nature can be carried further into the environment by wind and rain. Many materials also remain present for a long time. Reducing litter therefore requires more than cleaning up alone. Behaviour, education, visibility, ease of use and the environment in which people dispose of waste all play an important role.

The better we understand why litter occurs, the better we can develop solutions that address the problem.

Playful, educational and practical

The Playbin combines a practical waste solution with an educational purpose. Empty cans and PET bottles take up a relatively large amount of space. By reducing their size, the available space in the internal waste container can be used more efficiently.

But the most important value lies in the visible experience. The Playbin shows children and other users that waste does not simply disappear, but is consciously collected and processed. This makes responsible waste behaviour easier to understand and more attractive.

The Playbin is intended for places where many people come together, such as schools, parks, squares, recreational locations, campsites, sports environments and other public places.

Developed locally in Belgium

Can Crush consciously chooses a local approach. The Playbin is being developed in Belgium in collaboration with De Brug in Mortsel, a professional partner for tailor-made solutions. This collaboration helps keep technical development, manufacturability, quality and practical implementation closely aligned.

By keeping development, manufacturability and practical implementation close together, we can work step by step towards a safe, robust and maintenance-friendly solution for use in public spaces.

The Playbin is currently in development. In the coming period, work will continue on the design, technical development and preparation of a first prototype.

Building a future with less litter together

Can Crush believes that litter is not reduced only by placing more waste bins, but above all by helping people look at waste collection differently. By involving children in a playful way in collecting waste correctly, we make waste behaviour more visible, understandable and positive.

Together, we can build a cleaner public space and a future in which waste does not end up on the street or in nature, but in the right place.
